Spaghetti (or Beans) on Toast for Breakfast

So, the Marmite reminded me of another may-cause-you-to-do-a-double-take iconic Kiwi breakfast/lunch/dinner that you will encounter in the dining hall - Wattie's spaghetti (or beans) on toast. From a Wattie's advertisement:

Wattie’s Spaghetti. Good Simple Food!
Everyone loves Wattie’s Spaghetti. Not only is it fun to eat but it’s also good for you. Made from top quality wheat, tomato purée and Wattie’s special blend of spices, it’s great as a quick snack on toast or as a light meal. Simple, easy to prepare and delicious. So make sure you always have a can or two of Wattie’s Baked Beans and Spaghetti on hand – for breakfast, lunch, as a snack or a light dinner.

DIY Marmite?

Kiwis love (or hate) their Marmite (a fermented yeast spread); however, earthquake damage has had the Christchurch factory (the sole producer of NZ Marmite) down for repairs and new stocks of this beloved, dark, tarry, salty substance will not be back on store shelves until July.  Hence, this DIY Marmite video that may be of interest to you as you start to grasp Kiwi culture.
